Liminal Journeys Through Sound on Vase* Hagakure 13)’s “Liminal phase, pt.1”
Harlow artist Vase* Hagakure 13) dives deep into the spiritual and emotional roots of techno with the release of “Liminal phase, pt.1”, a striking original single that arrived on 29th April 2026. Drawing from decades of experience across underground rave culture and classical music training, the artist delivers a track that feels both deeply personal and powerfully forward-thinking.
At the core of “Liminal phase, pt.1” is an exploration of humanity’s ancient connection to music and its ability to elevate consciousness and spirit. Inspired by the tribal origins of rhythm and collective experience, the single transforms those ideas into a modern techno statement with a sound that feels raw, hypnotic, and immersive.
Recorded at Medway Studios alongside engineer Jesse Skeens, the production combines analogue outboard gear with digital mixing techniques to create a sonic identity that stands apart within the techno world. Vase* Hagakure 13) describes the release as something genuinely unique in the genre, drawing comparisons to the experimental edge of Terrence Dixon while pushing into entirely new territory.
The release also arrives with a deeper social and emotional context. Created as a response to the increasingly polarised political climate affecting societies worldwide, the track channels frustration and reflection into art, using music as both resistance and transcendence.
Vase* Hagakure 13)’s background adds another compelling layer to the project. Having roots in East London’s free party soundsystem scene of the 1990s and early 2000s, where Detroit minimal techno and Chicago house were championed in unexpected spaces, the artist now returns with productions influenced by names such as Underground Resistance, Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Regis, Surgeon, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson.
With “Liminal phase, pt.1”, Vase* Hagakure 13) delivers a release that honours techno’s underground legacy while carving out a deeply individual artistic vision.
