Tilleby Releases Pivotal New Piano EP “KEYS”

The Kolmården born Swedish composer Tilleby has just released his new EP KEYS that his fans have been impatiently waiting for. KEYS was released on March 29, 2025 and is of great importance to him personally. This appears to be a transformational project for Tilleby with KEYS, as it displays the raw talent alongside fierce dedication he has for the piano, which is his main instrument of choice. This EP represents over a year’s worth of labor that the composer had painstakingly poured into it. It is the result of complete devotion to piano pieces which was a long standing fantasy for the composer. 

Tillebys focus on composing solely for the piano pieces in the album was critical for the further development of his approach. KEYS was recorded in his private studio and living room, and consists of tracks that seem to blend the classical and contemporary styles. In the process of composing the tracks of the EP, Tilleby was influenced by jazz piano legend Jan Johansson and contemporaries such as Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds. As a result, the listener can feel the middleground and especially quiet depth of introspection that he has dedicated himself to. As some tracks in the EP are tenderly intimate, solo piano pieces, they tend to capture remarkable creativity and compositional vulnerability the artist experiences when writing for a single instrument.

For Tilleby, this project is more than just a release—it’s a milestone in his creative evolution. He set aside two albums worth of compositions over the past year, planning to fuse them into KEYS. It is something that has been in progress for years, and Tilleby calls it a challenge and a dream come true. “With one instrument, there is no hiding. It’s like being exposed.” The creative process of this self imposed limitation enabled him to break boundaries and explore fresh, bold territory. 

Tilleby’s evolution as a composer is on full display, and has consolidated his prowess as a formidable figure in piano music with this EP. KEYS is not only about the music, but the reinvented journey. This EP invites listeners to witness a new side of an artist who is willing to bare it all and redefine norms–in this case the perception of how a piano is utilized.
