TIDAL WATER

The Void
The Void

The Void by TIDAL WATER is a song that evokes and idealizes those who are neglected as well as those who somehow have not yet been fully integrated into popular culture. Its powerful lines drive home the need for the audience to recognize the presence of the people who have been ignored and encourage a contemplation concerning the mechanisms of society that make them unseen. The lyrics are woven in imagery as well vivid emotions combining to give an overwhelming feeling of pain, aspiration, and change.

A good way to start the song is: “In the alleyways of forgotten dreams, where shadows linger unseen / Whispers of those left behind, in the mazes of the unkind.” The emotions of such statements are beautiful as well as painful making one eager at the same time into how it follows. “Forgotten dreams” and “shadows” are imagery that indicate a situation in which dreams are shut down and people are lost in a cruel, unhelpful world. The many cruel, ‘mazes of the unkind’, are a direct description of the society in which hopeless people live in, always trapped, and never appreciated. Such thrilling pictures pull the attention of the audience into the domain of the unheard and the sightless to accentuate their suffering and the immediacy.

The chorus ‘Hear the echo, now feel their pain, in the streets where silence reign / Look beyond what meets the eye, in the unheard, truth does lie,’ perfectly could be called a ´Yes We Can´ slogans. No punishment is equal to what the communities do and such requests must come for some time from the people. The phrase ‘silence reign’ is meant to indicate the perilous isolation and apathy that most of these people are subjected to while ‘truth does lie’ indicates that there are certain learnings that are in the experiences of these people that other people in society might be blind about and which we as society need to pay attention to for these people’s welfare and for the welfare posterity.

The verse, ´Beneath the surface, out of sight, lies a world in constant plight / And in the corners where we don’t gaze, lives are lived in a maze´, gives a supporting idea of invisibility. It makes clear that societal apathy is not only the absence of concern, but also active evasion. The “life in a maze” signifies the life of the oppressed people, where the maze or that “life”, and to a certain degree is still the dilemma, remains out of sight, shows the reluctance to face any such unpleasant circumstances.

The image seen in the lyrics progresses with “In the whispers of the night, there’s a calling for the light / A song of hope amidst despair, a plea for somebody to care.” TIDAL WATER then depicts the minute details of such carnal reach but more positively. The ‘calling for the light’ demonstrates a yearning for recognition, mercy and transformation. The appeal here ‘…care’ is a demand for care and ‘action’ to the concern of the ‘abandoned’ seeking that others will be sympathetic and ready to help.

Then the last lines come: “In the echoes of the void, there’s the song of the unenjoyed / In their silence, wisdom lies, a reflection of our own disguise.” These lines are quite revealing on a lot of things and the different kinds of learning and teaching that could be accumulated out of stories of the ‘last ones’. The phrase “the song of the unenjoyed” refers to dreams and aspirations that can never be pursued by many because of socio-economic strata, whereas the phrase “wisdom lies” is somehow a contradiction of the unspoken hardship they have and are still going through. The term ‘our own disguise’ indicates that the society’s attitudes towards these people are actually societal’s failure and fear of their own inadequacy.

To sum up, “The Void” by TIDAL WATER is a lyrical and meaningful piece of work aimed at those people who are in one way or another forgotten by the society. It makes the audience to think about different perspectives, about things that are quite often overlooked and about why it’s important to appreciate variety. Perception of “The Void” is an impression of images and emotions that makes an appeal for compassion, comprehension, and concern of social issues.
