The Submerged explore virtual rock landscapes on the EP Fabrica

Japanese alternative rock band The Submerged continue to expand the possibilities of modern rock with the release of their first mini album Fabrica, which arrived on February 24, 2026. Known for their narrative driven songwriting and emotional band sound, the group has built a unique identity by blending music, storytelling, and virtual performance spaces.

Fabrica is a six track release that moves fluidly between alternative rock, shoegaze textures, funk, rap, and Britpop influences. The result is a collection that reflects the band’s wide musical palette while staying rooted in expressive and atmospheric songwriting.

The Submerged have become especially known for performing in VRChat, where virtual venues serve as their main stage. Through these performances they have cultivated a creative environment that connects audiences from around the world in an unconventional but increasingly vibrant music scene. Beyond their own concerts, the band also organizes a recurring VRChat live event series titled Halley’s Comet Night, which has already been held three times and highlights the growing community of artists working within the platform.

Their commitment to this emerging scene also led to the release of a free compilation album featuring seven VRChat based bands, a project aimed at bringing greater attention to the creativity unfolding in virtual spaces.

Two songs from Fabrica highlight the band’s imaginative approach to songwriting. The track Green River reflects on the sense of wonder inspired by early 2000s science fiction films. Its title references the iconic green digital rain from The Matrix and evokes the idea of a future that once felt close but never fully arrived. At the same time, the song suggests that music itself continues to flow quietly across the world, connecting people in unexpected ways. Musically, the track draws inspiration from Britpop and captures the emotional resonance that songs like Oasis’ Wonderwall once had on listeners discovering that sound for the first time.

The title track Fabrica takes a more intimate direction. Its lyrics follow a small everyday adventure unfolding over the course of a single day, from stepping outside to eventually falling asleep beside an anatomy book titled Fabrica. The calm imagery contrasts with the song’s heavy musical character, featuring slow tempo rhythms and fuzz soaked guitars influenced by 1990s alternative rock bands such as Dinosaur Jr. Interestingly, the melody of the chorus appeared to the band upon waking and the entire song was completed in just thirty minutes.

With Fabrica, The Submerged continue to explore new ways of expressing rock music across both physical and virtual worlds, offering a fresh and creative perspective on where the genre can go next.
