The SKBs Explore New Musical Territory with Debut Release Where This Leads Us

Recently released, Where This Leads Us is British band The SKBs’ debut long-player—a band unlike any other that is gaining traction on the indie music scene. The SKBs as they are at their best are more than a band, but rather a loose, informal collective of skilled session musicians and friends, gathered around the musical vision of writer and leader coordinator Al Sharp.

What started out as an individual “bucket list” venture has become much more. Encouraged by a grassroots movement on the internet and in European countries, including most notably Germany and Austria, The SKBs decided to chase the music and see where this leads them . And the resulting album is both surprising as well as popular.

The album spans a broad musical landscape, and the songs flow from rock, country, and soul into cinematic vistas. “Dust in the Light” dishes up raw guitar-rock and a scathing set of words, and “Everything Must Change” drifts towards country gentleness through Ronnie Miller’s pedal steel. There’s songs like “Welcome to My Life,” offering up soulful leads, and in “The Whale Edge,” we’re treated to an infectious 12-bar rock and roll groove that you won’t be able to resist moving your seat to.

The SKB roster changes from track to track, and that freedom provides a cohesive sound. Status Quo’s Leon Cave appears on drums, singers Si Marx and Sara Davey, and guitarist Eon Robinson take guest spots. All contributions are loving and thoughtful and produce a debut album that is sleek and intimate.
