The House Flies Introduce New Album With “Derelict Crawl”

The House Flies are preparing to return with “Derelict Crawl,” the first single from their upcoming second album, Lions and Ore. Set for release on September 4, the track introduces the heavier and more repetitive side of the Moline, Illinois band’s new material.

Built around a steady post-punk rhythm, dense guitars and quieter drop-down sections, “Derelict Crawl” combines an immediate arrangement with the band’s darker atmosphere. Its repeated refrain of “We don’t belong” adds to the song’s sense of tension, while images of dial tones, worn leather, summer heat and physical collapse give the lyrics a distinctive character.

The single offers an early glimpse into Lions and Ore without revealing all of the album’s slower and more atmospheric turns. The seven-track record arrives November 6 through Wilhelm & Sons Entertainment Company, marking the first House Flies full-length featuring the current four-piece lineup of Alex Riggen, Burnie Eckhardt, Ozzie Woods and Nick Pompou.
