Svarp The Harp breathes new life into “Hoochie Coochie Man”

Svarp The Harp, the blues-driven artist from Fürstenwalde/Spree, Germany, has released his heartfelt cover single “Hoochie Coochie Man.” The track, which came out on October 20, 2023, is a soulful reinterpretation of the Willie Dixon classic that pays tribute to the greats while carrying Svarp’s unmistakable touch.

Recorded in Berlin at Wolvesinsound Studio, the single captures the intimacy and raw energy of a live performance. What sets this version apart is the surprising inclusion of an impromptu slide guitar. During the recording process, Svarp spotted the instrument in the studio and decided to give it a try. One spontaneous take later, the sound became an essential element of the final mix, adding warmth and authenticity to the track.

Svarp cites blues legends such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, and even German bluesman Stefan Diestelmann as major influences. This rich foundation, combined with his own experiences from countless live shows, creates a rendition that feels both deeply rooted and refreshingly personal.

The production is entirely handmade, a detail that blues enthusiasts will recognize immediately. With Stephan Schmutzler on bass, Harald Wenzek on drums, Michael Stappenbeck on guitar, and Svarp himself on vocals, harp, rhythm guitar, and slide guitar, the ensemble delivers a sound that is clean, slow, and contemplative.
