SIENNÁ Expands Her East-Meets-West Vision on New Album EMA

Kyoto-born and Oslo-based electronic artist SIENNÁ has returned with EMA, an immersive nine-track album that continues her distinctive East-meets-West approach while pushing her experimental sound into new territory.

Following her 2023 concept album Wa-Kei-Sei-Jyaku, EMA develops SIENNÁ’s cross-cultural vision through a collection of what she describes as “image-to-sound syntheses.” The album was shaped by ideas gathered while spending time in nature, particularly in the Kibune valley in Kyoto and on the island of Ischia. Instead of capturing those impressions through drawings, SIENNÁ transformed them into music.

EMA explores the interconnectedness of all things from SIENNÁ’s personal perspective. Its title refers to ema, the traditional Japanese wooden plaques used to communicate wishes or messages within a spiritual context. For SIENNÁ, the album became a musical way of recording messages she felt were coming from the natural world around her.

Across its nine tracks, EMA moves freely between cinematic electronic music, drum & bass, ambient textures, glitch elements and traditional Japanese influences. That variety reflects SIENNÁ’s long-standing “no rules” approach to composition, where creative freedom comes before fixed structures or genre expectations.

The album opens with “Be A Seeker, Believer,” a track built around resilience, hope and self-belief. Other songs including “Your Fact, My Fact,” “Ema,” “Aenaria,” “369 (Miroku),” “Finding Inner Sanctuary,” “The Majestic,” “A Messenger” and “From Here to Where You Are” continue the album’s reflective and exploratory direction.

In an era increasingly shaped by AI-generated music, SIENNÁ also sees her commitment to non-linear composition as a way of preserving what she calls the “perfect imperfection” within digitally created sound.

With EMA, SIENNÁ continues to avoid predictable electronic trends, instead offering another deeply personal and adventurous chapter in her decade-plus journey through experimental music.
