Last Train to Wyong: Scared of Sharks’ Groovy Homage to Chaos

Scared of Sharks are a punk rock’n’roll trio known for their electrifying live shows, and they have just released their latest single, “Last Train to Wyong.” The quirky, energetic slice of post-punk, out today, was inspired by a real-life misadventure: drummer Tim Shady’s wild night that ended with an accidental train ride north to Wyong instead of south to Wollongong.

This single has been one of the highlights of the band’s live set for the last year, inciting audiences to dance and laugh all along Australia’s east coast. It’s the infectious groove slyly referencing the “Democracy Manifest Bloke” in the second verse that is what “Last Train to Wyong” is really about: the Scared of Sharks ability to blend humor and musicianship.

It’s the final single the band will be releasing ahead of their debut EP “Double Happiness,” due December 16. It’s going to be high-energy proof that the band has evolved from its early days in Mogareeka to the staple act of the Illawarra music scene it is today.

Since their formation back in 2016, Scared of Sharks have overcome lineup changes and geographical boundaries to rise as a force to be dealt with. Comprising founding member Taylor Schwifty, joined by Tim Shady on drums and Louis Crouton on bass, this band has been able to build a hyper-loyal following due to constant touring and impressive performances.
