Rusty Reid has released “Oh, What a World,” a new single taken from his album Lone Stardust (Masterworks of Texas Songwriters). The American indie folk-country-rock singer-songwriter, originally from Texas and now based in the Pacific Northwest, chose the song as the final track on the double album.

Originally written by Kacey Musgraves, Daniel Keyes Tashian and Ian Fitchuk and released by Musgraves in 2018, “Oh, What a World” holds a special place within Reid’s project. It is the only song on Lone Stardust written by a female songwriter, and Reid felt its spiritual character made it a natural choice to close the record.

According to Reid, the song offers a positive ending after the emotional journey of the album. While Musgraves’ original version has a more airy and surreal quality, Reid approached the material from a more grounded perspective, while still leaving room for the vocals and guitars to rise and expand.

The recording features Rusty Reid on vocals, Jason Roller on electric guitars, Chris Condon on acoustic guitars, Dane Bryant on keys, Jay Gorman on bass and Robert Blair on drums.

“Oh, What a World” continues Reid’s exploration of notable Texas songwriting through Lone Stardust, while bringing his own indie folk, country and rock identity to the material. As the album’s closing statement, the single gives the project a thoughtful and uplifting final moment.
