Rothko Drops Breaking Free From Then – A Powerful Exploration of Letting Go 

Rothko plunges into 2025 with eerie beauty on Breaking Free From Then, which is due out via Trace Recordings on February 7th. With his reputation for deep and atmospheric soundscapes, Rothko has created an intimate yet cinematic track that buries listeners in the emotional struggle of moving away from the past.

Essentially, Breaking Free From Then is that all-too-familiar feeling of holding on when we know we should move forward. The music reflects this tension perfectly: soft, melancholic moments give way to heavier, more intense sections, mirroring the push and pull of emotions that come with change. Building up, it almost becomes overwhelming, like a storm breaking before a moment of clarity.

Mixed in December 2024, this is Rothko’s first single of the year and really sets quite a powerful tone for what is hopefully going to be a great musical year.
