A: “Garden Song” is a combination of memories, experiences and dreams that I have had. The goal was to capture the feeling of nostalgia and reflection that goes along with revisiting your past.

A: The imagery in “Garden Song” is supposed to set a tone and give it a sense of place. References to gardens, roses, water are all meant to put the listener into this world and have them experience nostalgia or longing.

A: Repetition helps to show that time has passed and things change unavoidably. Such lines like “I don’t know when you got taller” and “I don’t know how, but I’m taller” reflect on narrator’s wonder and introspection as his or her own growth occurs into adulthood.

A: Sensory language which includes touch, smell, taste et cetera creates a visceral bond between an audience member and their speaker. It can lead them through emotions along with narrator’s feelings even deeper thus making melody richer.
