Owen Young Releases ‘These Painted Flowers,’ the Final Installment of the Ambitious Muddy River Album Project

Canadian indie singer-songwriter Owen Young releases These Painted Flowers, the final installment of his ambitious Muddy River album project. Released on December 7, 2024, the EP closes a musical odyssey that started in 2020, through which he sews together the threads of relationships, regret, reconciliation, and self-forgiveness.

Much as is true for much of Muddy River, this EP reflects personal and social changes from the pandemic. Young’s songwriting, being so deeply steeped in storytelling, carries a weight of emotional feeling and honesty that has characterized the man’s work for many years.

Having studied fine arts at UCLA and law at the University of Toronto, Young eventually came back home to Haldimand County, Ontario. His music has told his journey-from a man to lands that shaped him.
