NICOSONOIO Reflective Piano Single Out now

NICOSONOIO has now unveiled the new highly sensitive and intimate solo, Nostlgia. Out now, the new piece has been recorded by the artist in a seminal moment for the composer, being the first piece the artist has composed exclusively for solo piano.

Self-composed, self-recorded, self-produced, and self-mixed, Nostlgia is an independently produced recording that has a minimalist yet highly emotionally expressive aesthetic. Recorded in the home recording setup of the composer, helped by the fact that the piece involved the use of a compact Schimmel upright piano, a central aspect of the recording process of the piece was the placement of the microphone, in combination with the use of the built-in reverb of the living room space, thus creating an organic, intimate environment around the piece.

All in musical terms, Nostlgia borrows the likes of Philippe Glass, the evocative soundtracks of Brad Oberhofer’s The Andy Warhol Diaries, among others. Those sources are carried through on the composition in the barest of ways, yet creating a gentle melancholy tone that puts the listener in kind of warm, reflective atmosphere.

What’s special about the release is the sense of emotional honesty, of sparseness. NICOSONOIO sought after a tone that would be a hug, and Nostlgia accomplishes that—it’s a gentle, encircling piece that wraps the listener in.

While they currently don’t produce any live shows in the works, the music speaks for themselves. “I’d love my music speak to people personally,” says NICOSONOIO, and in making Nostlgia, they most certainly took one huge leap in doing so.
