Neil C. Young Trio Drops Reflective Single “AggenAnonAggen Pt.2”

Mark down the 15th of June 2025 as the date for the release of the Neil C. Young Trio’s first single, AggenAnonAggen Pt.2, a spiritual, contemplative track that marks a change of direction from the Manchester trio’s previous work, and an opportunity to see the group’s skills and sensitivities in a stripped-down, acoustic environment.

Led by guitarist Neil C. Young, supported by Miguel Boleta on the drums and Dave Murray on bass, the group moves away from their typical electric sound to sound more mellow and reflective. With its slow, triple time foundation, the track has a nostalgic, reflective nature that is reminiscent of the tradition of hymnal and spiritual music.

Originally written as a sync brief, the song has since become extremely personal for Young. Recorded remotely across Cumbria, Stockport, Manchester, and Colne, the song displays the band’s ability to create coherent, emotionally charged music in the face of physical distance.

“AggenAnonAggen Pt.2” features guest vocalist Katie Smethurst and string arrangements by Young himself, adding more texture and depth to the underlying acoustic trio. The release is also a lead-in to a 3-track EP later this fall on vinyl, with each version a different take on the same song—solo guitar, acoustic band, and electric trio hybrid.

After a recent run of gigs, the Neil C. Young Trio are devoting their time to this new batch of recordings now, with a live show already lined up at Manchester’s Matt & Phreds on July 22nd. Check their Instagram for upcoming dates.
