Monophonic Underground ventures into new sonic territory with Do or DIY

Emerging experimental electronic artist Monophonic Underground from East Cleveland is about to make a statement with his avant-garde debut EP titled Do or DIY, released on 5th January 2026. Having created this solo project over three months during 2024 and 2025, the EP weaves together ambient, IDM, and experimental sounds into a unique listening experience-a challenge to conventional electronic music.

Do or DIY finds its inspiration in anything from early acid house and modern minimal techno to experimental forbears like The Velvet Underground and Sonic Youth. Monophonic Underground also employs cut-up techniques and field recordings captured all over the UK and Tenerife, conjuring up soundscapes that sound at once spontaneous yet intricately considered. Thus comes an EP that invites listeners into the intense stillness of suburban nights, when acid baselines, foley, and found sounds bleed over minimal percussion, and melodies ebb and flow alongside the distant sirens and police radios.

The title track Do or DIY has an approach of muffled insurrection and vanity publishing, reflecting his belief in the power of the individual creation amidst overwhelming, polarizing narratives. Initially, the project was a rescore of silent movies such as Nosferatu and Metropolis, which later blossomed into full-bodied tracks that balanced experimentation with mass appeal. Bonus track Nosferatu will be released solely on Bandcamp, keeping a direct relationship to the original cinematic inspiration.

Monophonic Underground begins with Do or DIY, an EP, but one that stands alone as a journey of sound through which the listener is taken on an exploration of electronic music’s possibilities.
