Q What made you associate such a personal love story with “Get Me There to Church”?
I have been raised as a Catholic girl. So church is very important to me and my family.My father always value the importance of Marriage when 2 people love each other . HIs outlook on living together without marriage is always been shunned upon. So Getting to Church is a big idea and step for anyone in my family who had lived together and finally decides to marry.
Q How much of the song is derived from your own experience or feelings?
The song is an experience I have and have also witnessed in many of my family members and friends.
Q Where did the composition of these lyrics originate—was it from a memory, a feeling, or something different?
The composition came from a memory of that experience.
Q The lyrics are optimistic and conflicted. Was it significant to you to maintain that inner turmoil?
Yes, Life is never perfect… . We learn most from those imperfect experiences .
Q The chorus is so emotional and expressive of the message. Where did you come up with that line, “get me there to church with bells”?
Church with Bells is typical in a Catholic Church. The ringing of bells is always a joyous occasion during church-going. I always remember in weddings I attended that hearing those bells make the experience and event more memorable.
Q The lyrics also mention a lot about the day-to-day love and moments you experience. Why was it important that you conveyed that?
Because we all go through our daily lives with the person we love without knowing for certain how they feel about you , even when years pass by. The relationship at times become stale …. After a certain time… we tend to get complacent with situations . But in fact we should be more aware of each other’s needs and that’s what makes love works.
Q Do you think people are scared to write about commitment nowadays?
I don’t think people are scared to write about commitment. Timing is everything… so commitment plays with time in a way that many people see different.
Q Did composing this song modify anything regarding the way that you view relationships or love?
No… writing this song did not modify anything regarding the way I view relationships.
I view relationships just the way they are…. Imperfect but workable if one is willing.
Q How do you know when lyrics such as these are “finished” and ready for others to hear?
Lyrics are finished when the story is told and felt clearly in my heart and soul.
Q Do you have any one line of the song that is more meaningful to you?

Nobody really feels each others hearts anymore especially when you have been with someone for so long…. But if you ever get to…. You hope it beats the same feeling as yours.

Pairing fear and certainty is part of relationships so together is one song feels more real and relatable.

There’s time and place for vulnerability and fairy tale love stories in songs . Which resonates more …. Depends on the audience.

Q In retrospect, what do you believe the lyrics led you to emotionally while writing?
The lyrics led me to a lot of heartfelt memories and experiences … tested over time . Heartaches, challenges, conflicts , joy and content… all rolled into one.
