LEAVE THE BONES
LEAVE THE BONES Brings Defiance and Swagger to “Heart On My Sleeve”
LEAVE THE BONES, the ambient-folk project led by Costa Rica-based surfer and songwriter Jeremy Bogen, returns with “Heart On My Sleeve,” a song built around defiance, self-trust and the strength to stand up against whatever is trying to pull you down.
Bogen describes the evolving sound of LEAVE THE BONES as a mix of Americana, folk, country and ambient indie folk. With “Heart On My Sleeve,” that blend supports a song that feels deeply personal while still carrying a message that can easily connect with anyone who has had to deal with toxic or dangerous people in their life.
For Bogen, the track has what he calls “an audience of one,” but its wider purpose is just as important. He hopes the song can give listeners a little more swagger and confidence when they need to push back, protect themselves or simply refuse to be brought down.
That sense of resolve fits naturally into Bogen’s wider approach to songwriting. After years spent telling stories for humanitarian organizations, he began finding his own voice through music. His writing is shaped by the many places he has lived and experienced, from Minnesota and Chamonix to the Pacific coast of Santa Teresa, Costa Rica.
“Heart On My Sleeve” represents a move away from looking backwards for answers. Instead, the song is about standing firmly in the present, trusting your instincts and wearing your experiences openly.
The track is also set to take an important place in the next chapter of LEAVE THE BONES. On November 12, Bogen is heading to Los Angeles to record a Jam in the Van performance, and “Heart On My Sleeve” currently sits at the top of his song list for the session.
With its personal meaning, Americana spirit and unapologetic attitude, “Heart On My Sleeve” captures LEAVE THE BONES at a particularly confident and purposeful moment.
