JP Kennedy Brings Wild West History to Life on New Single “Hokahey”

Irish folk-rock artist JP Kennedy has unveiled his latest single and music video, “Hokahey”, a vibrant release that combines historical storytelling with an energetic folk-rock sound. Inspired by the Native American battle cry used to inspire courage and unity, the song tells the remarkable story of Chief Red Cloud and the Native American victory in Red Cloud’s War against US military expansion during the nineteenth century.

Driven by warm fiddle melodies, tribal drums, and an uplifting pace, “Hokahey” balances powerful subject matter with an accessible and engaging musical approach. The track highlights themes of resilience, cultural identity, and the determination to protect a way of life in the face of overwhelming odds.

The single also forms part of JP Kennedy’s wider creative vision for his upcoming concept album, Road to Jerome, which draws inspiration from Wild West stories passed down through generations of his family. These tales originated with his great-grandfather, Con Kennedy, who operated saloons in Arizona and New Mexico before returning to Ireland.
