Jake Major Unveils “The Amsterdam Tapes, Vol. 1” – A Nostalgic Yet Futuristic Dance EP

Emerging electronic artist Jake Major has just dropped his latest project, The Amsterdam Tapes, Vol. 1, marking an exciting new chapter in his musical journey. The 19-year-old producer and performer from Newcastle upon Tyne is known for his genre-spanning approach, and this EP sees him fully embracing trance and dance music for the first time.

Drawing influence from all-time electronic influences like Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, and Giorgio Moroder, including 90s trance heroes such as Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk, Major carves out a signature sound that bridges nostalgia with that new, progressive edge. Equally important in his career growth, this was the first full vocal EP ever from him; it shows new developments both in his producing work and as a songwriter.

The EP is comprised of four tracks, each with its own energy. These Pills of Lust and Longing captures the euphoria and danger of rave culture, while on Euphoria Peloria, it spirals into a dreamy place with a hypnotic melody. How Can It Be? infuses Eurodance grit with introspective lyrics, and Vigilante, which was originally written when Major was 16, takes on new life with cinematic elements of spoken word.

The title and theme of the EP are a homage to Amsterdam-a city that Major deeply admires and frequents. Some of the songs were even written there before being brought to life in the studio back home. Though plans are underway to bring the music to live audiences in the near future, The Amsterdam Tapes, Vol. 1 marks just the beginning of Major’s foray into vocal-driven dance music.
