GLEET Turn Up the Message on New Single “Strident”

GLEET return with “Strident,” a politically charged single that emerged while the band were finishing work on their upcoming album, Thames Sea. Although created during those sessions, the track developed outside the album’s conceptual framework and became a release with its own clear identity.

The idea behind “Strident” explores how the word is often used to describe women with strong opinions, while similar language is far less frequently applied to men. GLEET contrast measured female voices with patriarchal and misogynistic attitudes, gradually pushing the concept toward a more confrontational response.

The recording process gives the track another distinctive element. Voice messages sent by friends in London, Bangkok, and the US became a central part of the song, alongside instruments and vocals recorded by the band.

Less focused on the dense wall of sound often associated with GLEET, “Strident” shows another side of their self-created Scrunt style while keeping their political edge firmly intact.
