East Duo Return with the Reflective Instrumental Journey of “Chumi”

Georgian instrumental project East Duo is set to unveil its latest single, Chumi, on June 26, 2026. Following the remarkable success of their breakthrough composition Chubina, the trio now presents a deeply personal and emotionally resonant piece that explores themes of loss, remembrance, and the silence left behind by conflict.

The title Chumi translates as “silent” in Georgian, a fitting name for a composition inspired by the lasting impact of war. Rather than focusing on specific events, East Duo channels the universal emotions connected to tragedy and absence. The instrumental was created as a tribute to those who have lost their lives in conflict and to the families who continue to carry that grief. Through music alone, the group seeks to express feelings that often remain beyond words.

Founded by Levan Bantsadze and Giorgi Matkava and later joined by Mamuka Matkava, East Duo has built a distinctive identity by blending traditional Georgian musical influences with contemporary cinematic arrangements. Their music combines folk roots, minimalist production, and atmospheric soundscapes, creating compositions that communicate through emotion rather than language.

The release of Chumi arrives after an extraordinary chapter in the group’s career. Their previous work, Chubina, began as a simple iPhone 6 recording made in Georgia with no commercial expectations. What followed was an unexpected global success story, with the track reaching international charts, appearing in Shazam’s Global Top 200, and surpassing 130 million streams on Spotify while connecting with listeners across the world.

With Chumi, East Duo moves into a more introspective space while staying true to the emotional authenticity that has defined their music. Accompanied by a cinematic visual campaign that includes a music video, live performance footage, and short-form content, the release aims to reach audiences drawn to ambient, alternative folk, cinematic, and reflective instrumental music.

As East Duo continues to redefine Georgian folk music for a global audience, Chumi stands as a powerful reminder of music’s ability to express shared human experiences beyond borders, cultures, and words.
