The Joker & The Queen – CORMAC

CORMAC just released “The Joker & The Queen,” a cover of Ed Sheeran’s emotional ballad, and this time, it’s really something else for the musical path of this artist. Having been known for his earlier work with a youthfully toned voice, CORMAC confidently steps into the singer-songwriter genre with a more mature tone that tells well in the reflective nature of the song.

Accompanied by Henry Facey on guitar and Dominic Ferris on piano, this single is a stunning display of CORMAC’s vocal growth: subtle instrumentation meets emotionally charged lyrics. This song was recorded in Brighton in August 2023 under the keen production of Ferris, with Toby May engineering the sound and Simon Hanhart mixing.

It was recorded during a quite heavy thunderstorm, so that atmosphere rings through into the production side-a pretty cool representation of a song that balances the vulnerable and the strong. CORMAC’s interpretation brings an added layer of personality to this lesser-known Sheeran track, demonstrating he can manage to make tracks so seemingly familiar his own.

Having already performed at impressive spots like the Royal Albert Hall and Seattle’s Crocodile Club, CORMAC is having just enough go right in setting up shop in this phase of his career. “The Joker & The Queen” is a great teaser of what’s next from the talented artist, who will soon be releasing original material.
