An Ocean With No Waves

Q: Can you please share a little bit about the feelings you wanted to show through the lyrics?

A: I wanted to add some hope, isn’t it? That notion that things can get better even when they become so unyielding.

Q: How would you describe the metaphor of an ocean without waves?

A: The ocean with no waves implies a kind of mere existence for me, right? Just like that feeling when one is locked in a situation and there is no progress. This is all about wanting to break free from monotony and have fun.

Q: What does “I don’t wanna stay in an ocean with no wave” repeated throughout the song mean to you?

A: Oh yeah, it’s just a sentence about saying no mediocrity. It means being able to tell when things are not working and being brave enough to search for something better. We all deserve this sort of love which makes us live, don’t we?

Q: What does “We’re too close to the shore” mean?

A: My interpretation of this line speaks against staying in our comfort zones because if feels like we’re playing it safe instead of living life fully. Sometimes, you gotta push yourself beyond the shallow end ‘ya know.

Q: What theme of resilience do you find in this song?

A: Ah huh… resilience was big. It’s that inner strength that keeps one going despite how hard it gets. Although there’s melancholy feel here but still there’s much determination as well; it’s almost like saying “hey I’m not throwing in the towel yet”.

Q: Where did the imagery come from for this song?

A: Hmm..good question..I guess I just wanted my language to paint pictures for itself –you know? In terms of imagery, I found the sea metaphor as ideal for this song. It’s so large and unknown with a million possibilities. And who doesn’t love an ocean metaphor?

Q: What about the repeated parts in the song?

A: You know, repetition is like mood isn’t it? As if one is caught up in that rhythm and is being carried by it… Like “na-na-na”s and “ocean with no wave” just washes over you, drowning you in emotions of its own.

Q: Can you tell us more about what themes are universal in this song?

A: There’s a few of them, of course. Love, longing and search for meaning…all that good stuff. We all can feel our desire for something more profound and meaningful. This is what makes us human.

Q: Lastly, what do you hope people take away from “An Ocean With No Waves”?

A: Well, I probably assume that it will resonate personally with people. At least they can listen to the song and say, “I have experienced this.” They may be motivated to seek after the love that can satisfy them.
