Anton Donovan Reimagines an Ozzy Osbourne Classic with “No More Tears”

Los Angeles-based artist Anton Donovan continues to follow his own unconventional creative path with “No More Tears,” his distinctive reimagining of the Ozzy Osbourne classic. Released on 2nd July 2026, the cover takes a song rooted in heavy metal and places it within a completely different musical world, revealing another side of its haunting character.

Donovan had been fascinated by “No More Tears” for years, particularly its journey through distinct movements, enigmatic lyrics that invite different interpretations, and Osbourne’s unmistakable vocal presence. After spending years riffing on the song with friends and collaborators, he eventually committed his own interpretation to record.

Recorded between Los Angeles and Donovan’s hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the single was created alongside producer and artistic partner Emerson Dameron. Their complementary eccentricities play an important role in shaping the recording, helping the pair create something that deliberately stands apart from much of what is currently being released.

That individual approach fits naturally into Donovan’s wider artistic identity. Originally from Halifax, he began his career as a stage hypnotist and improv comedian before eventually combining his classical music training with a fascination for seedy Vegas lounge aesthetics. He describes the resulting creative universe as his “weird little Musical Neighbourhood of Make Believe,” drawing inspiration from figures including Hammerstein, Brecht, Jacques Brel via Scott Walker, and Oscar Levant.

With “No More Tears,” Donovan shows deep respect for the original while refusing to simply imitate it. By moving the composition into unfamiliar territory, his version highlights how compelling the song remains beyond its original heavy metal setting. Donovan has even expressed the hope that listeners unfamiliar with Osbourne’s recording will be inspired to seek it out.

It is a thoughtful tribute, but also a confident act of reinvention, capturing Anton Donovan’s willingness to approach familiar material from an entirely unexpected direction.
