Bejamalen (With Beauty) Brings Sufi Tradition and Contemporary Arabic Music Together

Egyptian record label Afaq Art Production & Distribution continues its mission of celebrating authentic Arabic music with the release of Bejamalen (With Beauty), a new musical work that combines spirituality, tradition, and contemporary artistic vision.

Written and composed by Sheikh Abd Al Ghani Al Umari Al Hasani, Bejamalen draws inspiration from the rich heritage of Sufi poetry. The qasida explores themes of love, spiritual witnessing, and divine knowledge before concluding with praise for the Prophet Muhammad. Rooted in classical traditions yet presented through a modern lens, the work offers listeners a meaningful and deeply expressive artistic experience.

The piece is performed by rising Egyptian singer Ziad Kamal, whose musical background reflects a unique combination of academic achievement and artistic dedication. A graduate in Mechatronics from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Kamal has also pursued formal studies in Eastern maqams, violin, and oud. His growing reputation was further strengthened after winning the prestigious Dr Ratiba El Hefny competition at the Cairo Opera House, where he continues to perform.

One of the highlights of Bejamalen is its orchestral arrangement and direction by Maestro George Kolta alongside Syncop Orchestra. Known for collaborations with major Arab artists including Ragheb Alama, Tamer Hosny, Carole Samaha, and Abdullah Al Ruwaished, Kolta brings together classical, ensemble, and Eastern Arabic traditions into a unified musical identity that perfectly complements the Sufi text.

Produced by Afaq Art Production & Distribution, with sound engineering and mixing by George Yacoub and direction by Sherif Wahba, the project represents nearly three years of preparation and creative work.

Following the attention received by Afaq’s 2023 release Althulathia (The Trilogy), Bejamalen marks another important milestone for the label as it continues introducing refined Arabic music to audiences across the Arab world and beyond.
