EX MONARCH
Ex Monarch Unleash Fierce New Single “Rotten”
Hailing from the alternative rock scene, Ex Monarch present their newest single “Rotten”, a visceral yet intoxicating single tackling hard emotions from addiction and loss. Since forming in late 2021 at the University of Miami, the band continues to raise eyebrows with a signature blend of emotional nuance and deafening soundscapes.
“Rotten” is a showcase of the tight collaboration of the group, whereas Amanda Pasler’s vocal delivery has grown hauntingly good. Her vocals are intertwined with the frenetic guitar playing of Eli Yaroch and Mallory Gravitt, while Saidy Burch’s bassline wiggles along steadily below, driven by George Staton’s drums. Making it even more personal in the production process, the whole track was recorded and produced by the guitarist himself, Jake Sonderman.
What really makes “Rotten” remarkable, though, is the deeply personal inspiration for the track. The song borrows from real life experienced by one of the band members who reflects on their parent’s battle with addiction. The lyrics look toward the deeper feelings one experiences when they feel the loss of a loved one due of addiction and the conflicted need to reconnect, even in painful ways.
Live performances since their inception have propelled Ex Monarch into the spotlight, with iconic venues such as Revolution Live and Heartwood Sound Stage under their belt. Their most recent single, “Rotten”, cements their position in alternative rock by combining emotional storytelling with a dark and immersive sound.
“Rotten” will prove an affecting listen for them that enjoy songs that marry raw emotion to the intensity of sound, and portends some great things to come from Ex Monarch.
