JOE DOLMAN

The Middle
The Middle

Do you want to go through the lines in this song that touched me deeply? This is so far one of my favorite songs ever. I think it’s a very powerful love, regret and complex relationship song.

Dolman starts us off with a journey through his thoughts as he passes through her town on a high speed train. It is like looking back at what was not and wondering if things could have been different if something happened differently. Don’t we all go down such memory lanes occasionally?

But it’s the chorus of this song that really breaks hearts. It has just made him sound so sincere in his apology and admission of blame; there is no way someone cannot feel for him. He does not come up with excuses or try to find problem elsewhere instead chooses to stand up for his mistakes while feeling genuinely sorry for the suffering he caused somebody else. And that line, “You were caught in the middle, caught in the middle,” I mean, it sounds like he understands what chaos he created both within himself and also to his partner.

Furthermore, Dolman becomes even more vulnerable as the song goes on. Trying hard to accept what had happened because he feels guilty about it seems tough to him too. Like an open book where everyone can see inside him thus exposing his regrets in such a way that feels so humanly relatable.

This is why “The Middle” is so powerful; this isn’t just a track but rather a broader view into love which makes it appear untidy and complicated. And by being unafraid of airing out his shortcomings or admitting when wrong, Dolman makes that music worth listening to.

In conclusion, “The Middle” talks about forgiveness plus redemption where people accept their past errors while making efforts to make better choices next time around. But remember that we are all humans with flaws who keep on making mistakes no matter how old we are and the possibility of making up for them as well. For all those reasons, Joe Dolman deserves all the accolades in the world.
