Komusō Marks a Striking Debut From Death Popsicle

Northern Arizona artist Death Popsicle is set to release the debut EP Komusō on July 31, 2026, bringing a distinctive voice to the dark alternative landscape. Created entirely by musician and producer Devon Aviles, the five track release blends darkwave, industrial, synthpop, and gothic rock into an immersive and cinematic experience.

Inspired by the wandering Japanese monks known as komusō, the EP explores themes of isolation, identity, emotional neglect, social collapse, and survival in a disconnected world. Written and produced in the forests of Northern Arizona, the project captures both distance and reflection while maintaining a powerful rhythmic energy.

Highlights include “Animal,” which examines conformity and control, “Dear Friends,” a moving reflection on fading human connections, and “Ugly,” a meditation on self worth and outsider identity.

With brooding vocals, hypnotic rhythms, and rich electronic textures, Death Popsicle delivers a debut that feels unique, memorable, and impossible to easily categorize.
