Glasgow-based artist Brooklynzhen returns with the release of Light of the Dead, a single that signals a clear and confident evolution in his artistic direction. Released on April 10, 2026, the track arrives as his most ambitious and emotionally resonant work to date, offering a deeper and more reflective listening experience.

Known as the creative alias of Allan McCafferty, Brooklynzhen has built his reputation within Scotland’s underground scene by blending elements of house and techno with experimental textures. With Light of the Dead, he shifts toward a more downtempo and organic sound, drawing from influences such as Boards of Canada, The Field, Dave D.K, Mogwai, and Andrew Weatherall. The result is a rich and layered composition that feels both immersive and intimate.

At its core, the single explores a striking environmental narrative. Brooklynzhen channels the imagined perspective of wild animals living in the Amazon, including lizards and birds of paradise, capturing a sense of isolation, vulnerability, and quiet unawareness of the destruction around them. The recording process plays a key role in shaping the final result. Created across three spontaneous sessions, only first takes were preserved to maintain authenticity and immediacy. Guitar and analog synth were routed through RAT and Boss SDE 3000 D digital delay pedals in mono, while careful post-production techniques such as panning and volume fading helped sculpt the atmospheric depth of the track.
