CUPID SPELL Releases Dark Synthpop Single “Look Alike”

Bloomington-based duo CUPID SPELL has just unveiled their debut single Look Alike, a haunting dark synthpop track created in honor of David Lynch. Formed in the summer of 2025 by Josh Kreuzman, known in the darkwave world as Twice Dark, and collaborator Mandy Buffington, CUPID SPELL was born out of a shared desire to explore themes of love, loss, and mystery.

Look Alike captures the surreal dreamlike atmosphere that has become synonymous with Lynch’s work, drawing inspiration from the soundscapes of Angelo Badalamenti and Julee Cruise. The single features a sample from Lynch’s Number of the Day series, weaving his unmistakable voice into the music and deepening the sense of cinematic unease.

The song revolves around the ideas of duality, duplicity, and the dichotomy of human nature, inviting listeners to reflect on whether we are ever truly who we seem to be. With its lush synth layers and darkly ethereal tone, Look Alike feels like stepping into a dream that hovers between beauty and unease.

The release coincides with Lover’s Eye Press’ Issue 10, a folio dedicated to David Lynch. CUPID SPELL was specially created to contribute to this project, and Look Alike stands as a fitting tribute to the enigmatic filmmaker’s influence.

This debut marks just the beginning for CUPID SPELL. The duo has more music planned and intends to release a series of singles throughout 2025 and 2026. With Look Alike, they open the door to a world of shadowy elegance and surreal wonder.
