Matt Tarka set to release hypnotic new single “Salem”

Lancaster-based artist Matt Tarka will soon unveil his latest single “Salem” on September 19, 2025, produced, mixed, and mastered by Jarrett Nicolay at Mixtape Studios in Alexandria, VA. The track blends influences from Wilco’s “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” and the Velvet Underground’s “Run Run Run” into a genre-fluid sound that defies traditional boundaries.

Inspired by Tarka’s recovery from a soccer-related concussion, “Salem” captures vivid imagery, playful instrumentation, and introspective lyrics. Using an unconventional Jeff Lynne-style approach to recording, each drum element was tracked separately before layering in acoustic guitar, omnichord, and Nicolay’s electric and bass guitar work, creating a rich, immersive listening experience.

Fans can catch Tarka performing “Salem” live ahead of the release at Susquehanna River Creative Conspiracy in Columbia, PA on September 18. With its timeless atmosphere and emotional depth, “Salem” stands out as one of Tarka’s most unique and captivating works yet.
