My Fairytale

Let us know what prompted you to write My Fairytale and what did you have in mind when you started it?

Actually I’ve never been one of those artists that just decides one day that I’m going to just write a song. It all really happens naturally. All my songs start out on my acoustic guitar. I’ve always turned to playing whenever times were hard or I was just not having a good day, it always helped me get through whatever emotions or issues I was experiencing in my life at that time. They all will almost always start out with whatever few chords or strumming I start playing on the guitar then the lyrics just start to flow. Sometimes the entire song can come out all at once and other times I could end up writing a really cool verse or chorus then revisit the song a day later or a week, however long it takes until the song completes itself. I have a handful of unfinished songs that never went anywhere.

My Fairytale was written at a time in my life when I was starting all over in a whole new city on a new journey but it seemed like every time I thought something good was gonna happen for me I was slapped in the face with the reality that world around me wasn’t going to let me win no matter how hard are was trying. So all my past emotions & memories just all came back one day along with whatever I was dealing with in my life on that day which in turn created the song My Fairytale. I know everyone’s perception on a fairytale is different. I’ve always looked at a fairytale as something that seemed Great at first but in the end seems to always turns out to be a facade. It’s like when you were a kid and couldn’t sleep the night before Christmas day, you were so excited you couldn’t contain it all but then Christmas morning comes and it just wasn’t what you imaged or hoped it would be. Pretty much a complete letdown. Many things in my life turned out that way when I was younger. I grew up in a rough environment and had to deal with allot as a kid that’s why playing my guitar, drawing and writing poetry was all I could do to stay grounded and feel safe.

I’ve never really believed in magic but always hoped & believed in things like my goals & dreams. Or that things in my life would hopefully change and get better one day. To be honest though, up until this last year I’d actually hung up the idea of accomplishing my dream of being able to write & play music for a living but I went through a breaking point mentally & spiritually which led me towards God. I gave my life to God a few years ago and my whole life has changed. He reopened these doors for me taking me back to music. Just when I had closed this door to what I thought was a wasted dream He opened that door and led me back to it.

I personally feel that the nature of music is like a universal spiritual connecting language which one song can resonate differently with each individual person. I think we absorb a song & it’s lyrics based on what we are going through at that time in our life. For example If I was listen to a song for the first time now at where I’m at mentally in my life today I’m going to translate it differently then I would have when I was younger as a teen or in my 20’s. I was dealing with different obstacles in my life and still growing.

I think writing music for me is very therapeutic. It has helped me get through many hard times in my life. I think without having this ability I really don’t know what else I would have done, well actually I probably would have turned to drugs like many other people In my life. I’ve always felt that God gave me the ability to write music to help me survive through the life I was born into but he’s now revealed to me that it’s not just me who will these songs will help. And that’s why I’m finally getting them out to the world in hopes that they help other people possibly get through their struggles.
