The Numb Project Opens a Dreamy Portal with “A Space Between”

Chris Calarco, who creates worlds under the guise of The Numb Project, has released his third full length album in just eleven months—*A Space Between*. This latest offering presents a journey into intricate soundscapes and melancholic grooves, to those that cherish downtempo, abstract hip hop and moody atmospheres.

“A Space Between” sees Calarco further blurring genre lines. Integrating elements from lofi hip hop, downtempo and even dub inspired trip hop, the album maintains a meditative quality from start to finish. It is an album that celebrates the exploration of emotions within subtle moments, especially during tumultuous transitions — that rich territory of possibilities resting between certainty and gentle chaos.

Every track flows with a boom bap heartbeat alongside plush analog synths and vivid melodies and textures. From a production standpoint, the record lays back inviting the audience to reflect, while the sense of progression and movement throughout is inescapable. Soothing as it may sound, this is far from intended background music. The record begs the listener to engage, to listen deeply, providing solace in quiet moments that usually evade notice.

The audio was mixed by Champion Sound’s Tony Welter and mastered by Shawn Hatfield from Audible Oddities. The precision of the sound in the track is sharp and captivating while being ideal for Calarco’s contemplative nature.
